Getting to School – What’s the PROBLEM?

Car trips to school add to traffic congestion, parking hassles, air pollution, and the risk of crashes. When travelling by car, parents and children miss valuable opportunities to meet friends and get to know their local community.

Travel Wise aims to reduce these trips to school by encouraging parents and children to increase their use of active, social, safe, and sustainable travel choices such as walking, cycling and public transport. The programme works through the implementation of – education, encouragement, enforcement and engineering (the implementation of road safety measures such as safer crossing points, traffic calming and new footpaths).

It is well recognised that less congestion, along with infrastructure improvements, benefit not only the school but also the wider community.

Rangeview Intermediate School is part of the Travel Wise programme and has organised a number of school events in reagrd to this.
