Technology
Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
The school has a computer suite equipped with PC's, including a laser printer, colour printer, scanner, digital camera and data projector. Students are given an overview of specialist wordprocessing and spreadsheet programmes as well as Adobe Photoshop. Programmes are developed to challenge students for "real life" assignments as well as co-relating with various academic classroom activities.
Computer and internet guidelines are issued to all students. Parents/caregivers and students are required to sign a computer and internet use agreement before pupils are allowed to have access to the school's computers.
Hard Materials Technology
Pupils are introduced to the techniques and tools used to manipulate hard materials such as wood. Each student will produce a piece of work which demonstrates these newly acquired skills. Students may be invited to attend the Hard Materials extension class. In this extension programme students delve deeper into the technological design process. Opportunities are given to work with other hard materials such as stone for garden sculptures and tiles and grout for mosaic mirror frames.
Multi-Materials Technology
Students are given opportunities in sewing, screen printing, machine embroidery, quilting and plastics. Extension classes are available by invitation only. Students will be expected to design and produce a product following a design brief.
Food Technology
During this course students will learn a variety of practical techniques. Emphasis will be on helping to prepare simple meals for the family and gaining an understanding of safe and reliable processes for producing, preparing, presenting and storing food.
Extension classes for food technology look at specialised food groups such as herbs and spices. It examines aspects of history and cultural significance and the various cosmetic applications of these ingredients.
