Sport
Rangeview Specialised Sports.
At Rangeview there are several sports that are taken beyond the usual “Western Zone Day” and to a higher level.
An example of this is the Rangeview Boys Soccer Extension Programme. Teams of Year 7 and Year 8 boys train once or twice a week for the whole of Terms Two and Three. Term Three also sees our First Eleven competing in the West Auckland Intermediate Champions League which runs for the duration of that term. Winning this title in its inaugural year is a highlight that we plan on emulating this year. In addition to this is a classroom based introduction to soccer history and tactics for the same group of players. There are also plans to further develop Girls Soccer at Rangeview.
Hockey is played by the school, with weekend games against other teams Auckland wide a regular feature. There is also the option of training once a week for Term Two and Three at Kelston Boys’ Highschool where we benefit from the experience of skilled players learning to coach. Summer hockey is also available and takes place in Term One and Four with evening games at Mount Roskill Grammar.
Waterpolo is a sport that Rangeview has a history of excelling in, and our competition games on Friday evenings again give our students a chance to compete at a high level against challenging opposition. Our achievements at national level are evidence that this is a valuable and rewarding exercise.
In school time Rangeview also runs an extension programme for Basketball, in which a professional coach visits our school on a weekly basis to work with a group of our most talented players. Also available is a table tennis extension programme.
Sport is taken very seriously at Rangeview, as we understand that achievement on the sporting field can help to create well rounded individuals with an understanding of the importance of leading a balanced life.
